Paul writes 2 Timothy as a prisoner facing the end of his ministry, and the letter has the feel of a final handoff. Timothy is loved, remembered, and charged. The gospel has been entrusted to him, but the pressure around that trust is real: shame, suffering, desertion, false teaching, quarrels, ungodliness, and the loneliness of costly faithfulness.
The book begins with the charge to rekindle the gift, refuse shame, share in gospel suffering, and guard the good deposit by the Holy Spirit.
