Read slowly: Acts 10:24–33. Notice Peter's willingness to enter a home he once would have avoided.
Cornelius gathers his household and friends to hear Peter. Peter arrives because God has challenged his assumptions about whom he may receive. He explains that God has taught him not to call any person unclean.
The visit becomes more than a change in Peter's private thinking. He crosses the threshold, speaks with the people gathered, and listens to Cornelius's account. God's instruction takes the shape of an actual encounter.
We may agree that God's grace reaches widely while arranging our lives so that we seldom meet anyone outside familiar circles. Distance allows assumptions to remain untested. An honest conversation can reveal how little we know about someone whose background differs from ours.
Peter comes with a message centered on Jesus, and he also comes as a man who has needed correction. That combination is worth carrying: conviction with humility, a willingness to speak with a willingness to learn.
A welcoming step need not resolve every difference. It creates room to encounter a person whom we might otherwise know only through a category.
Ponder: What assumption has kept me at a distance from someone I could know better?
Practice: Accept or offer one ordinary opportunity for conversation across a familiar boundary. Ask about the person's experience and listen carefully.
Carry This with You: Let God's generosity become a real act of welcome.
Prayer: Father, correct the assumptions that narrow my concern. Give me humility to enter, patience to listen, and love that makes Your welcome visible. Amen.
