Read slowly: Acts 19:18–20. Notice the costly action that accompanies the believers' confession.
People who practiced magic disclose their conduct and destroy their own books. The materials have considerable value, but the believers are leaving an allegiance that conflicts with belonging to Jesus.
Their action gives repentance a practical shape. They do more than express regret while carefully preserving everything needed to resume the old practice. They make a real break with what they have recognized as wrong.
Our circumstances will differ, and the passage does not authorize destroying other people's possessions. Its question is personal: am I keeping a convenient route back to something I have asked God to help me leave?
That route might be a dishonest arrangement, an easily repeated habit, or an environment that consistently draws us toward harm. A sincere intention can need the support of a concrete change. Removing an opportunity, seeking accountability, or changing a routine can help our actions follow the direction of our prayer.
Such steps do not purchase God's forgiveness. They express trust that life with Jesus is worth more than preserving an old attachment.
Ponder: What practical access am I protecting to something I say I want to leave behind?
Practice: Make one proportionate change that supports your repentance. If the pattern is difficult to face alone, ask a trustworthy person for help.
Carry This with You: Let your next arrangement support the direction in which God is calling you.
Prayer: Jesus, give me honesty about divided loyalties. Help me receive Your mercy and take the concrete step that makes my turning toward You visible. Amen.
