Read slowly: Acts 28:11–16. Notice Paul's response when believers come out to meet him.
After the long voyage and shipwreck, Paul approaches Rome under guard. Believers travel to meet him along the way. When he sees them, he thanks God and takes courage.
The man who encouraged others through a storm now receives strength from their presence. He does not have to remain the strong one in every encounter. The simple fact that they have come matters to him.
We can become accustomed to offering support while finding it difficult to admit that we need company. We may wait until we can explain our situation neatly or until we have something useful to contribute. That habit can leave us unnecessarily alone.
The welcome on the road reminds us that friendship need not solve a situation to strengthen someone within it. Paul is still a prisoner after the meeting, but he continues with renewed courage. People have taken the trouble to be near him.
We can thank God for such care, receive it openly, and become the person who makes that effort for someone else.
Ponder: Where would the presence of a trusted person help me face what lies ahead?
Practice: Ask someone to spend a little time with you, or arrange to accompany someone facing a demanding day. Let being present be enough.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for people who help me take courage. Make me willing to receive their care and attentive to the places where my presence could strengthen another person. Amen.
