Read slowly: Acts 8:26–35. Notice how Philip begins his conversation with the traveler.
The Ethiopian official is reading Isaiah aloud. Philip hears him and asks whether he understands. The man admits that he needs guidance and invites Philip to sit beside him.
That honest exchange makes room for the good news. Philip learns what the man is asking and begins with the Scripture already before them. He explains Jesus in response to a real question rather than treating the traveler as an audience for a prepared performance.
We can be eager to help and still miss what someone needs to understand. A question about faith may carry confusion, grief, curiosity, or a mistaken assumption. If we answer too quickly, we may give a correct explanation to a question the person never asked.
Listening is a form of care. It gives another person room to speak honestly and helps us offer an answer that serves understanding. We do not need to know everything to begin a patient conversation. Sometimes the most helpful first words are an invitation to say more.
Ponder: In conversations about important things, do I make enough room to understand the question?
Practice: Before answering someone's concern today, ask one sincere clarifying question. Let the answer shape what you say next.

Prayer: Jesus, make me attentive to the person beside me. Help me listen without rushing and speak in a way that brings understanding of You. Amen.
