Let Trust Become a Willing Yes

2 min readScripture · Reflection · Prayer

Read Luke 1:26–38. Notice that Mary asks a question before she offers her willing response.

Gabriel tells her she will bear Jesus, the promised King. Mary asks how this will happen, since she is a virgin. The answer points to the Holy Spirit and God's power. She then receives the word as the Lord's servant. Her willingness follows listening; it does not require her to pretend the announcement is ordinary or easily understood.

Mary's calling is unique. We are not being promised her experience or an extraordinary outcome for every desire. Yet her response helps us consider how to receive what God has actually made clear. Faith can bring a real question and still become willing obedience.

There are ordinary moments when we know a faithful response but cannot control all its consequences: admitting a wrong, offering forgiveness, or carrying out a responsibility we would rather avoid. We may want the whole road explained before taking one step. Mary's response invites us to bring our uncertainty to God while asking for a heart ready to follow his word.

Ponder: Where might an honest question and a willing response belong together in your life today?

Practice: Name one responsibility Scripture makes clear. Tell God what feels uncertain about it, then take one fitting step of obedience without requiring a prediction of the outcome.

Carry This with You: Trust can ask honestly and answer willingly.

Prayer: Lord, help me listen carefully, bring my questions truthfully, and receive your word with a willing heart. Give me courage for the next faithful step. Amen.
